The BSD Diversity Committee is excited to announce our next Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Retreat, this time in person! The retreat will be held on campus on Monday, June 5th, with a full day of speakers and workshops to motivate and direct our work in the Biological Sciences Division. The content of this DEIJ retreat will be centered around “Looking Back and Thinking Forward: Strategies to Develop a Diverse Faculty. We will ask the following questions: 1. How do we improve student support systems using our DEIJ principles and perspectives so that more students thrive in graduate school and can feel excited to pursue a career in academia? 2. How do we improve our mechanisms of faculty recruitment and retention to diversify our faculty and attract more diverse talent in the future? To answer these questions, we are designing a series of workshops divided into two tracks: Student Support and Faculty Hiring. The retreat day will consist of six highly interactive workshops (three in each track), a DEI poster session and fair, and close with a spectacular keynote address and reception. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided to all registrants.
Present your DEI Work at our Poster Session
DEI work is an integral part of re-shaping our division. The students, faculty and staff who get involved, both inside and beyond the university, are setting the standard for engaged scientists. To recognize that effort and teach our peers how to get involved we’d love to see your projects presented as posters! It’s not just lab work that counts here, it’s the outreach, the science communication, the teaching, the tutoring, and so much more.
